- Building donated for re-use
The Trust may run a public fundraising campaign once EcoCentre build heads into Phase 2. This timber clubhouse building from Highfield (see photo below) would otherwise have been demolished, and we are re-using it. Many thanks To Kevin Pateman for this generous support to get our project started. Since then we have raised $400,000 from grants and gifts.
Ross Wells is our treasurer: potential donors can discuss ideas privately with him at: rosswells@xtra.co.nz The fit-out follows recent re-connection of the two timber building halves, adding a central foyer, on new foundations suited to the site. It's also been re-roofed, thanks to a donation from NZ Steel. If you or your business would like to help, and thus have your products or services featured in the EcoCentre , please make contact now: email anneandrhys@farmside.co.nz or phone Syd on 0276869091 or Rhys on 036938726 |

Previous Festival - Oct 2019
Our second Sustainability Festival began in 2019 with a preview of the Ecocentre building and planting native shrubs outside, on 13 Oct. On the 15th we had a movie screening Woman at War in Timaru (Comedy-Thriller, photo above), and on Wednesday evening 16th two documentaries at Geraldine Cinema: 2040 and Fools&Dreamers.
On Friday evening, at ARA, guest speaker Tony Moore looked at Climate change - the challenge and how councils can respond. And on Saturday there was a car boot sale at the Crow's Nest plus displays and events and music in Redruth Park, 10 minutes walk away along the Creek. Environment Canterbury is a main Festival sponsor, plus help from ARA Institute. Download the programme PDF here. ![]()

Zoom conferencing was used for subsequent AGMs. To read more about environment centres & hubs in other parts of NZ see: www.environmenthubs.nz/members
